A series of violent incidents in August has left Karachi residents reeling, with multiple murder cases reported across the city and nearby districts.
In one of the most disturbing cases, a woman was arrested in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) for allegedly killing her two children, aged eight and four.
Police said the suspect used a sharp knife to commit the crime and later informed her ex-husband through a video call, also sending him photos of the victims. The weapon has been recovered and a murder case registered at Darakhshan police station. A judicial magistrate has remanded the woman in custody while police continue their investigation.
In a separate development, veteran journalist Khawar Hussain was found dead in his car in Sanghar. Initial reports suggested suicide, but his family rejected the claim, insisting he was murdered. Authorities have ordered a fresh post-mortem, which showed no torture marks.
A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the circumstances of his death, while forensic results are awaited.

Another incident occurred in DHA Phase 6, where armed robbers shot dead a security guard before fleeing with his weapon. Police are conducting raids in search of the suspects.
These tragedies have drawn attention to wider issues including domestic disputes, mental health challenges, and law enforcement gaps. Observers note that the child killings highlight the role of custody battles and family stress, while the journalist’s death and street crimes underline Karachi’s persistent security challenges.
