Islamabad, July 20, 2025: The much-anticipated KP Assembly session called for the oath-taking of members on reserved seats faced another delay on Tuesday, sparking political uncertainty across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Even after a 90-minute wait, the proceedings had yet to begin, with lawmakers trickling in slowly.

Sources inside the assembly indicate that if the quorum is formally challenged, the session could be adjourned shortly after it begins — delaying the oath-taking process further. So far, only a few members, including Abdul Salam, have appeared from the government side.

Speaking to reporters, Opposition Leader Dr. Ibadullah stressed that any attempt to derail the session through a quorum challenge would face legal resistance. “We are fully prepared to approach the court if today’s session is disrupted,” he warned, adding that a prior agreement on the Senate elections between the opposition and government could also be jeopardized if the delay continues.

Meanwhile, a PTI spokesperson revealed that Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has convened a parliamentary party meeting. All PTI lawmakers have reportedly been instructed to avoid attending today’s session, hinting at internal strategic decisions taking shape behind closed doors.

Despite the uncertainty, a few government representatives — including Provincial Agriculture Minister Muhammad Sajjad Barkwal, Abdul Salam Afridi, and Sher Farzand — did reach the assembly premises. Barkwal emphasized that it’s the speaker’s constitutional duty to administer the oath and confirmed that official session notices had been received. “The final decision on our participation will come after the party meeting,” he added.
