The Local Government Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has set up a special control rooms to tackle the KP floods triggered by relentless heavy rains. The initiative aims to ensure swift monitoring and effective coordination during the worsening flood situation across the province.
As per the official notice, the control room has been established at the Directorate General, where designated staff will remain on duty round-the-clock to keep track of rainfall, flash floods, and emergency developments. All district-level offices have also been directed to stay in close contact with the central unit to report any urgent flood-related incidents.
Authorities confirmed that real-time updates on KP floods will be collected, allowing quick decision-making and timely mobilization of relief efforts. Officials stressed that the setup is intended to strengthen disaster management and minimize losses as flash floods continue to disrupt daily life in many regions.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) revealed grim statistics: within the past 24 hours, cloudbursts and flash floods claimed 229 lives across KP, leaving 40 others injured. Victims included 184 men, 14 women, and 12 children. District breakdown shows 91 fatalities in Buner, 35 in Shangla, 23 in Mansehra, 21 in Bajaur, 20 in Swat, 15 in Battagram, and five in Lower Dir.
The PDMA further reported that 68 homes were destroyed, with 21 partially damaged and 7 completely wiped out. Fatal incidents were concentrated in Buner, Swat, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram — with Bajaur and Battagram listed among the hardest-hit districts.

Responding to the crisis, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the NDMA to maintain close coordination with the KP government and to deploy all available resources for relief and rescue operations. Chairing a high-level meeting, the PM ordered authorities to accelerate efforts in flood-affected zones, ensuring immediate support for families suffering from the devastating KP floods.
