Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has banned illegal mining, including gold extraction along Indus and Kabul rivers, for 60 days to curb ecological and security risks.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has imposed a province-wide ban on illegal mining, including a 60 day restriction on gold extraction along the Indus and Kabul rivers. Officials said the step was necessary to curb environmental damage and address law and order issues linked to unregulated activities.

The ban, enforced under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, applies to districts including Swat, Nowshera and Kohat. Authorities warned that violators will face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The provincial government has instructed local administrations and law enforcement agencies to ensure strict compliance, stressing that the move is aimed at protecting natural resources and preventing further ecological harm.
