The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has come up with a new mandatory rule of bus as well as truck drivers to travel long distances. According to this law, buses, trucks, and trailers that travel 365 kilometers and above must be driven by two drivers. The action is aimed to reduce road accidents, to prevent exhaustion of drivers, and to offer protection of passengers in the province.
The specific focus of this regulation is rendered on vehicles that pass through major traffic corridors in Peshawar to other big cities of Pakistan including Lahore, Karachi as well as Quetta. Enforcement drivers who do not adhere to the new regulation would be fined between Rs 5,000 and Rs10,000. All traffic police in the province together with other concerned departments have been directed to enforce the law with strictness.
Police officials insist that two drivers on long-range cars will enhance the safety situation on the road and constant vigilance during travel. Analysts also observe that sleep apnea-induced accidents will reduce significantly with twin-drivers policies, and long-range journeys will become safer to both the passengers and goods.
