Islamabad, June 22, 2025: In a major move to upgrade public transport, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has sanctioned Rs. 3.2 billion for the addition of 50 diesel-hybrid buses to the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) fleet. The decision was finalized during the 34th cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
This significant investment addresses the growing demand on the Peshawar BRT system, which is expanding its operational routes from six to eight. The TransPeshawar fleet currently consists of 244 buses, including 24 added in 2022. With this fresh approval, the fleet will rise to 294, reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility and enhanced passenger service.
ZamungKor Campuses to Merge for Streamlined Operations
The cabinet also approved the merger of several ZamungKor campuses — including those in Swat, Abbottabad, Dera Ismail Khan, and the Girls Campus in Peshawar — into its main autonomous institute based in the provincial capital. This consolidation will bring a total of 425 students under the central administration, which already houses 600 state children.
This initiative is aimed at improving resource utilization and offering uniform support and education facilities to disadvantaged children under a single umbrella.
Boost to Pension Reforms and Service Law Amendments
Further, the KPK government has entered into a new partnership with Pak Qatar Asset Management, making it the 13th entity managing assets under the Contributory Provident Fund Rules, 2022. This is a part of the province’s larger pension reform framework that began in 2015, focused on sustainability and improved financial governance.
The meeting also endorsed key amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Public Services Act, 2014, to streamline service delivery and reinforce accountability.
