Islamabad, Aug 11, 2025: Teenager fast bowler Kwena Maphaka proved why he is among the most promising young cricketers in a recent T20 match versus Australia. The 19 year old fast bowler gave the best performance of his career bowling 4 wickets for 20 runs as he combined raw pace with a fearless intensity that harassed the Australian batting order.
His most important dismissals were the Tim David, Mitchell Owen, Adam Zampa and Ben Dwarshuis amid a close match at Marrara Stadium where South Africa just missed its target of 179. Maphaka affected an instant effect when he bowled Owen off stump with a rocket effort of 144 km/h in the bid that squeezed out the shuffle to deprive the batter space.
Maphaka was economical against David, an aggressive Australian batsman as he conceded 14 runs in his eleven deliveries and ending David in the next to last over. His combustible nature was also demonstrated when he was involved in a short-lived argument with David, demonstrating the fact that he had a competitive streak.

In addition to his bowling, Maphaka made two sharp catches in the field, dismissing Travis Head and skipper Mitchell Marsh with two offerings off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada. This young left arm escort has been in the news since his early brilliance at the 2024 ICC U19 World Cup where he was named Player of the Tournament with 21 wickets at an average less than 10.
Kwena Maphaka also remains a confirmation as to why he is a future star of South African cricket as he applies raw speed and intensity to go against head to head against best batsmen at international level.
