Islamabad, Oct 27: Lahore: A global monitoring site reports that the air quality index (AQI) in Lahore surged to unsafe levels early this morning, nearly reaching a dangerous 700 AQI.
Lahore is first on the list of the most polluted cities in the world with an overall AQI of 690.
Since people of Lahore are seeing an increase in respiratory ailments like coughs, viral flu, and sore throats, the city’s air is now considered toxic.
To protect their health, individuals have been instructed by health authorities to use masks and goggles, refrain from needless outside activities, and take preventative measures.
In its health recommendations, the AQI index report suggested that Lahore residents wear masks when they are outside, operate air purifiers to purify the air, avoid exercising outside, and cover windows to prevent exposure to contaminated outdoor air.
Because the air is heavier in the winter than it is in the summer, harmful particles in the atmosphere descend and pollute the atmosphere. This causes an area to be covered in a layer of contaminated particles, such as smoke and high levels of carbon.
According to specialists, the effects of the smoke that is released into the atmosphere by burning industries, crop residues, coal, trash, oil, or tires start to show at the beginning of winter and last until the conclusion of the season.
