Preparations have begun to celebrate Basant on a limited scale in Lahore, however, a final decision has yet to be taken.
Recommendations have been submitted to the government, proposing that the festival be held within the Walled City. However, the use of metallic or sharp kite strings will remain banned.
Committees will also be formed to resolve the legal complications hindering the celebration of the Basant festival.

Basant has been banned for nearly two decades due to safety concerns. The festival, which marks the arrival of spring, was halted after numerous incidents of injuries and fatalities caused by the use of sharp, metallic kite strings known as “manjha.”
These strings, often coated with glass or metal, posed serious risks to both kite flyers and bystanders, leading the government to impose a nationwide ban.
Despite repeated calls from citizens and cultural activists to revive the festival under strict safety regulations, authorities have maintained restrictions.
