Islamabad, Aug 9, 2025: Following the success of electric buses in Punjab, an electric tram service is set to debut in Lahore to provide citizens with a modern and eco-friendly travel option.

According to available information, the electric tram will operate along a dedicated route from Harbanspura to Thokar Niaz Baig under a urban transport initiative. To improve traffic efficiency, officials have decided to align underpasses along Canal Road into a single lane. Moreover, the Jail Road underpass is planned to be shifted from the left to the right side of the roadway.

The tram line will operate on the far-left side of Canal Road to avoid causing disruption to existing traffic flow. To facilitate smoother operations, the road width near bus stops will be expanded.

The Transport Department is currently considering multiple operational factors to ensure the project’s practicality and long-term success. In addition, discussions are underway about constructing an underground route from Jallo to Harbanspura to further strengthen Lahore transport network.
