Islamabad, Oct 9: Lahore Imposes Ban on Uncovered Sand and Dust-Carrying Vehicles Entering the City. Tuesday’s Lahore Coordination Committee weekly meeting was presided over by Lahore Divisional Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood, who spoke on urban challenges, encroachments, traffic congestion, and air quality.
The announcement made during the meeting was that starting on October 25, cars and carts bringing untreated sand and dust into the city would not be allowed to enter. Government and private construction sites will be inspected in accordance with environmental SOPs in order to manage dust pollution. Strict measures are being implemented by the Lahore Environment Department to manage fugitive dust in the city.
The commissioner said that engineering and traffic intervention trial projects had been set up at thirteen strategic locations across the city. To guarantee adequate coverage, officers are deployed to these camps in accordance with predetermined schedules.
He stated that other parking options will be suggested by the Lepark Company, which is currently surveying parking near the camp areas. Data Darbar, Urdu Bazaar, Sabzi Mandi, Ram Gadh, Abid Market, Chaburji, Railway Station, Kotwali, Nawan Kot, Green Town, Kahna Bazaar, and Bhatha Chowk are among the places where camps are currently in operation.
The commissioner underlined that staff members at these camps will strive to remove encroachments and obstacles to traffic on roadways and crossings. Environmental specialists will also keep an eye on the quality of the air at different times of the day. A thorough plan will be created when the air quality has been analyzed. The camp staff’s performance will also be observed through sporadic inspections.
DG PHA Tahir Watoo, DG Environment Imran Hameed, CEO LWMC Babar Sahibdeen, Chief Engineer TEPA Iqrar Hussain, DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza, CTO Lahore Amara Athar, Additional Commissioners Abdul Salam Arif and Hamid Malhi, and representatives from the Traffic Police, Punjab Safe City Authority, and CM Roadmap Team were present at the meeting.
