Islamabad, Sep 14: Strict measures have been taken to target motorcyclists in Lahore who are riding without licenses or helmets at the main entry and exit points.
At ten other areas, including Harbanspura, Gajjumata, and Bhatta Chowk, as well as at Ravi Bridge, Saggian, Thokar Niaz Baig, Babu Sabu, Ada Plot, and Nawaz Sharif Interchange, authorities have stationed personnel.
Motorcyclists who do not wear helmets will be penalized and will be permitted to enter the city for the time being. But those without helmets won’t be allowed to enter the city as of next week. Authorities also want to take action against public transportation vehicles and rickshaws that use LPG cylinders.
Another development is that Amara Athar, the Chief Traffic Officer of Lahore, has started a similar effort to target bikers who do not have proper driving licenses. In addition to a fine of Rs. 2,000, offenders will have their motorcycles impounded until they produce a valid license.
The CTO reminded people that getting a license costs Rs. 930 and urged them to abide by the law. In addition, the learner permit’s 42-day validity period was eliminated, requiring motorcycle riders to obtain a full license prior to riding on public roads.
Ten driving license testing stations have been set up throughout the city to help the general people, and this year alone, over 500,000 residents have taken use of these services.
