Lahore Police have arrested 203 individuals and registered 197 FIRs in an intensified crackdown on pollution-causing activities under the ongoing anti-smog campaign.
A police spokesperson said 175 people were detained for releasing smoke from factories, shops, brick kilns, and other sources. Another 14 were arrested for burning tires, plastic, and shopping bags, while 10 were held for burning crop residues.
The spokesperson added that in October alone, the Traffic Police arrested 137 people linked to smog-causing violations. More than 13,700 smoke-emitting vehicles were fined, over 21,000 vehicles penalised for lacking fitness certificates, and around 5,600 vehicles fined for operating without tarpaulin covers. Over 3,000 vehicles were impounded as part of the month-long enforcement drive.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana said strict action is being taken against vehicle owners, factory operators, and brick kiln owners contributing to air pollution, along with those burning agricultural waste. He said the police are coordinating with relevant departments to support anti-smog operations.

The CCPO noted that Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) cameras are being used to identify polluting vehicles. Special check posts have been set up at the city’s entry and exit points to monitor and intercept smoke-emitting traffic.
He directed the Traffic Police to maintain strict enforcement and stressed that prevention, environmental protection, and public awareness are essential to controlling smog.
