Next week, Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb will present the team’s findings to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
This meeting marked the initial step in bringing the Chief Minister’s vision of offering modern and efficient rail transport options to the people of Punjab.
As per initial plans, the bullet train is expected to reduce the travel time between Lahore and Rawalpindi to a mere two and a half hours.
The project will also explore new rail routes to complement the system.
Railway officials delivered a detailed briefing on the current state of the rail network and track conditions during the meeting.
In her address, Maryam Aurangzeb stated that the bullet train project would deliver on another promise made by both former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to the people of Pakistan.
“The Chief Minister is committed to offering the public the fastest and most comfortable travel choices. Her vision is to modernize the rail system, making it a true public service,” she emphasized.
Aurangzeb further mentioned that the Chief Minister has also directed the renovation of the Lahore and Rawalpindi railway stations as part of the overall modernization strategy.
Additionally, there will be a collaborative effort with the Punjab Tourism Department to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the Lahore-Rawalpindi rail corridor.
The meeting was also attended remotely by Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, Transport Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, and Planning and Development Secretary Asif Tufail.
