Islamabad, July 26, 2025: The Punjab administration has ordered local waste management departments to work coordinate with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) to ensure real-time tracking of cleanliness operations in Lahore. This step is aimed at boosting hygiene by using Safe City cameras monitoring and quicker reporting of garbage piles and rule-breaking.

As per instructions from the Secretary of Local Government, all waste handling bodies including the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) have been instructed to place assigned staff at the PSCA control center. These representatives will observe live camera footages to track cleaning activity and report neglected areas.

This move strengthens a previous understanding between PSCA and LWMC to bring digital systems into routine sanitation checks. The cooperation helps quickly spot trash build-ups, banned waste dumping, and delays in cleaning routines.

Safe City surveillance tools have already been used during peak times like Eid al-Adha. They helped watch over trash collection, disposal of animal remains, and stopping illegal use of public areas. During the recent Eid cleanup drive, the authorities handed out more than 3.2 million eco-friendly bags and used cameras to track canal cleanliness and make sure environmental rules were followed.

The Safe Cities scheme now operates in 19 districts throughout Punjab aiming to set up 5,000 cameras by the middle of 2025. While the system was first made for law enforcement and traffic control, its function has now grown to cover environment-related duties and local administration checks.
