The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has initiated work on connecting Abdul Sattar Edhi Road to Qadir Tobash Chowk and onward to Pine Avenue through a proposed underpass along a 6.2-kilometre-long route, officials said on Thursday.

According to LDA, work has commenced on the available land from Ayub Chowk to Edhi Road. The overall project is estimated to cost more than Rs. 1.7 billion. The section of road linking Edhi Road to Qadir Tobash Chowk is being executed on-source by two private housing schemes, which the authority stated are responsible for constructing the portion of the structure-plan road passing through their areas.

LDA officials said the design for a full-height underpass at Qadir Tobash Chowk has been finalized to ensure a signal-free access route to Pine Avenue. Once completed, the underpass will allow uninterrupted traffic flow from Abdul Sattar Edhi Road directly onto Pine Avenue.

The authority further noted that the full-height underpass would be treated as a grant-in-aid project, with the cost expected to exceed Rs. 2 billion following final estimates.

Officials said the project aims to reduce congestion on adjacent main arteries and provide an alternate signal-free corridor for commuters.
