Commissioner Lahore Division Maryam Khan on Thursday chaired a meeting to review the ongoing Suthra Punjab (Clean Punjab) campaign and directed officials to launch a one-week public awareness drive for a cleaner city.

She instructed the Clean Lahore Squads to engage with citizens and ensure that waste is disposed of only in designated containers. The commissioner said that action must be taken against individuals and establishments found dumping garbage in open spaces instead of waste containers.

In the first phase, squads will be mobilized in selected union councils across Lahore and other districts of the division.

The commissioner said that warning notices and banners would be displayed during the first week to educate the public. However, from the second week onward, on-the-spot fines would be imposed—strictly on the basis of clear evidence—against those found littering.

“Citizens must be informed first. After the awareness phase, we will enforce the law without exception,” she said.

The meeting was briefed by CEO Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Babar Sahibdin, while deputy commissioners of all districts and Additional Commissioner Coordination also attended.
