Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Dr. Athar Waheed, has put forward a significant proposal aimed at controlling carbon emissions and resolving traffic-related challenges in the city.
According to Dr. Waheed, around 800,000 to 1 million vehicles and motorcycles enter Lahore daily, while 400,000 to 500,000 vehicles leave the city. This heavy traffic flow, he said, contributes to increased smog, congestion, and road accidents.
Taking into account the rising number of accidents at the city’s entry and exit points, the CTO has proposed connecting nearby cities to Lahore through an electric bus (E-bus) service and the metro train system.
In the first phase, E-bus services will be launched between Lahore and the cities of Kasur, Nankana Sahib, and Sheikhupura. In the second phase, these cities will be linked through an intercity train network.

Dr. Waheed stated that the initiative will not only save citizens’ time but also reduce travel costs. He has sent the proposal to the Commissioner of Lahore for early implementation.
