Islamabad, May 19, 2025: The Punjab Transport Department has successfully concluded the feasibility study for Lahore’s eagerly awaited Yellow Line Electric Transit Project, marking a significant step toward revolutionizing urban transportation in the city.
This project, spearheaded under the directive of the Chief Minister of Punjab, focuses on delivering affordable, eco-friendly, and efficient public transit to meet the demands of Lahore’s expanding population.
Spanning approximately 24 kilometers, the Yellow Line is planned to connect Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura, serving an estimated 130,000 commuters daily.
This new electric transit corridor promises to dramatically ease traffic congestion on some of Lahore’s busiest routes, offering residents a sustainable alternative to traditional road transport.
With an estimated budget of PKR 80 billion, the project timeline is projected to begin in September 2025 and reach completion by June 2026.
The detailed plan has now been submitted to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat awaiting final approvals from both the Punjab Cabinet and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
In parallel, the Punjab government is advancing other mass transit lines — the Blue Line and Purple Line — to create a comprehensive urban rail network.
These interconnected transit routes are designed not only to reduce Lahore’s notorious traffic jams but also to lower carbon emissions, aligning with Pakistan’s broader environmental goals.
The Yellow Line will operate with 20 state-of-the-art electric train sets imported from China, further highlighting the government’s commitment to modernizing public transport infrastructure with cutting-edge technology.
