Islamabad, Aug 11, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has revealed that work on Lahore tourism highway, the Wagah Heritage Corridor, is progressing rapidly, marking a major step toward boosting the city’s cultural and travel appeal.
Stretching 13 kilometers from Quaid-e-Azam Interchange to the Wagah Border’s Zero Line, the project has already secured Rs. 285 million in funding. The dual carriageway is being widened to 68 feet, with 20-foot-wide service roads on both sides.
Key features include over 22 kilometers of reinforced concrete drainage, a 10-kilometer decorative boundary wall, and state-of-the-art solar-powered street lighting.
Initiated in January, the Wagah Heritage Corridor is on track for early completion. Once operational, it will streamline traffic flow and offer top-class facilities for local and foreign visitors attending the iconic Wagah Border parade.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized its importance for Sikh pilgrims from India, highlighting plans for colorful cultural installations, striking murals of national heroes, and beautifully lit streets.
She further noted that the total cost now stands at Rs. 2.85 billion. Beyond tourism, the corridor’s upgraded sewage and road systems will also address long-standing civic issues for nearby communities. In her words, “This landmark project will become a living showcase of Pakistan’s heritage, tourism, and beauty.”
