Islamabad, Mar 18 2025: Leicestershire has strengthened its squad by signing former Yorkshire captain Shan Masood for all formats in the upcoming season.
The Pakistan international, who played a crucial role in Yorkshire’s promotion last year, will return to Division Two of the County Championship with the Foxes.
The 35-year-old batter, with an extensive career spanning over 25,000 runs across domestic and international cricket, has previously represented Derbyshire as well.
However, he will miss the initial phase of the County Championship due to his participation in the Pakistan Super League. Masood is set to join Leicestershire in May for the T20 Blast.
Leicestershire’s director of cricket, Claude Henderson, expressed confidence in Masood’s ability, stating that he is a proven performer capable of influencing matches in both red and white-ball formats.
Henderson also emphasized the leadership and experience the batter brings to the squad, considering it an asset both on and off the field.
Masood acknowledged Leicestershire’s competitive spirit in recent seasons, highlighting their promotion challenge in the County Championship and their One-Day Cup victory a year earlier.
He noted that the club has developed talented young cricketers and shared his enthusiasm for being part of an ambitious team.
With Masood’s arrival, Leicestershire aims to enhance its squad depth as they prepare for the challenges of the new season.
