Islamabad, July 1, 2025: Manchester City are out of the Club World Cup to Al Hilal after a gripping 120-minute Man City vs Al Hilal clash. One of the most shocking results of the competition. Arguably the finest clash of the Club World Cup so far.
Right from the outset, Man City vs Al Hilal saw City press high, trapping the Saudi side deep into their own territory as Jérémy Doku constantly threatened on the left wing. Bernardo Silva capitalized on a scramble inside the box in the ninth minute to net the opener.
Al Hilal had a few chances at City’s goal before halftime, but Ederson dealt with them calmly. It was a classic display from a Pep Guardiola team — heavy possession and sharp, patient build-up.
The second half saw the momentum shift as Marcos Leonardo nodded in the equalizer, seizing on a loose ball in the area. The Brazilian forward’s goal ignited Al Hilal. Just six minutes later, Malcom broke free on the counter after a City corner. A pinpoint pass from Joao Cancelo set him off and he rifled a shot across Ederson into the far corner to take the lead.

City responded quickly, with Erling Haaland smashing in his 301st career goal. Malcom believed he’d earned a penalty moments later, but the flag went up for offside during the sequence.
A last-ditch clearance off the line kept things level and forced extra time. Kalidou Koulibaly scored early in the added period from a set piece. Guardiola swapped Phil Foden in for Rodri, and it paid off. Foden converted a Rayan Cherki assist to draw level. Yet, Leonardo sealed the result in the 112th minute from a Sergej Milinkovic-Savic header. Man City vs Al Hilal ended in heartbreak for City and triumph for Simone Inzaghi’s men.
