In an effort to stop fake detection bills and improve recovery, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has introduced changes to its billing policy.
During the anti-power theft drive, electricity thieves were caught and charged with detection bills worth millions of units. Instead of paying, most consumers took the matter to court, which drastically reduced the recovery rate.
Sources reveal that under the new policy, LESCO will not restore electricity connections of those caught stealing power until advance bill payments are made. Once a case is registered, consumers will have to deposit the advance bill before their connection is reconnected.
