Islamabad: Vice Minister of Lithuania, Egidijus Meilunas, expressed his deep honor to be in Pakistan on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Reflecting on the past three decades, Meilunas highlighted Lithuania’s rapid transformation, establishing diplomatic ties shortly after regaining statehood following decades of Soviet occupation. This year also marks Lithuania’s 20th anniversary of EU and NATO membership.
Speaking at a reception attended by Senior Sherry Rehman, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lithuania’s Ambassador to Pakistan Ricardas Degutis (based in Ankara), and numerous guests, Minister Meilunas emphasized the stability, security, and respect for human rights achieved during Lithuania’s transformation. He underscored the country’s integration into the European and Euro-Atlantic family, emphasizing shared values and a culture of compromise.
Meilunas noted fruitful discussions with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on political, economic, and regional security matters. He stressed the importance of unity in protecting the world order based on rules and international law amidst current global challenges.
Highlighting Lithuania’s strengths in various sectors including business services, startups, fintech, software development, cybersecurity, and life sciences, Meilunas expressed eagerness to enhance economic cooperation with Pakistan.
He commended the representation of Lithuania in Pakistan by Honorary Consul General Masud Khan and expressed optimism for continued successful cooperation between the two countries, rooted in mutual respect and friendship, over the next 30 years.
