Islamabad, Mar 12, 2025: The host venue for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final is projected to lose nearly £4 million in revenue.
This loss comes after India, which had been runners-up in the previous two finals, failed to qualify for the 2023-2025 edition of the tournament.
The much-awaited final, which will take place from June 11 to 15 at Lord’s, will see Australia face South Africa, which topped the WTC standings.
The Rohit Sharma-led side, which was expected to feature in the summit clash for a third consecutive time, missed out after a disappointing series.
One of the finalists in the first two editions lost 3-0 to New Zealand last year at home and was defeated 3-1 by Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
A media report said that the absence of India has had a considerable impact on ticket sales, with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) reducing prices by £50, now ranging from £40 to £90.
Initially, premium tickets had been priced higher, anticipating India’s participation, but the MCC adjusted the prices to compensate for the expected revenue loss.
The financial importance of India’s presence in cricket events has been underscored by this development, highlighting its central role in generating significant revenue.
