Recent spy shots have emerged showcasing the latest model from Luxeed, a collaborative venture between Chery and Huawei in the automotive realm. The vehicle, known as the S9, has been spotted undergoing road tests in China.
The Luxeed S9 presents itself as a sporty crossover SUV, drawing comparisons to the upcoming Nio ET9. While it shares some design elements with the existing S7 model, particularly up to the C-pillar, the rear of the S9 displays a distinctively truncated and abrupt finish.
At the front, the S9 boasts headlights with three lenses that seamlessly integrate into the air intake. Additionally, a lidar unit on the roof suggests advanced driver-assistance functionalities. The side profile showcases minimal overhangs at both the front and rear, contributing to its sleek and athletic appearance. Meanwhile, the rear of the vehicle maintains design continuity with the S7, featuring a through-light design and a high-mounted tailgate with a minimalist rear window. It is anticipated that the doors will adopt a frameless design, further enhancing the modern aesthetic of the car.
Internally, spy shots reveal a sophisticated, double-layered design akin to the S7. An LCD instrument screen is positioned towards the rear of the dashboard, while a centrally located, floating control screen adorns the intersection of the dashboard and center console.
The steering wheel sports a unique squashed appearance with only two scroll wheels for controls. Notably, face recognition technology is integrated into the A-pillar, showcasing the vehicle’s advanced security and personalization features.
While specific details regarding the S9’s powertrain remain undisclosed, expectations suggest the inclusion of a Huawei motor system and an 800V silicon carbide high-voltage platform. The S7 offers both single-motor and dual-motor versions, delivering a maximum power output of 288 HP for the rear-wheel-drive model and 489 HP for the all-wheel-drive model. It is anticipated that the S9 will either match or surpass these power outputs. Battery options are likely to mirror those available in the S7, offering 82 kWh and 100 kWh packs.
The official launch of the Luxeed S9 is anticipated to occur either later this month or in the third quarter of the year. Huawei and Chery aim to circumvent the challenges encountered with the Luxeed S7, which necessitated a relaunch in April 2024 despite initial deliveries commencing in November 2023.
