Islamabad, Feb 10: As the sacred month of Ramadan nears, preparations for iftar at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah have been finalized, with authorities introducing new regulations to enhance meal offerings and service quality.
Expanded Iftar Menu for Worshippers
This year, meal providers will be permitted to include two additional food items alongside the traditional iftar menu. The General Authority for Care of the Two Holy Mosques has confirmed that the standard meal will continue to consist of dates, bread, yogurt, wrapped tissues, and water. However, new additions such as nuts, cupcakes, pies, maamoul, cream, or stuffed dates are now allowed, offering greater variety to those breaking their fast at the holy site.
Stringent Regulations for Meal Providers
To maintain high standards, catering companies must update their records and secure necessary permits before providing meals. Only firms with extensive experience in serving Hajj and Umrah pilgrims will be authorized to distribute iftar meals. Additionally, strict hygiene and logistical standards have been enforced, including:
- A minimum of three licensed refrigerated vehicles.
- Dedicated packing facilities covering at least 600 square meters.
- A clean service record for the past two years.
These requirements aim to ensure smooth food distribution and uphold the sanctity of the Prophet’s Mosque.
Coordination for Efficient Distribution
Meal providers must work closely with designated officials to guarantee seamless transportation and meal distribution. Authorities remain committed to preserving food quality and maintaining an organized iftar experience for worshippers. These measures are designed to enhance the spiritual atmosphere and ensure that visitors receive safe, nutritious meals.

Pakistan Excludes Utility Stores from Ramadan Relief Package
In a separate development, the Pakistani government, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has decided to exclude Utility Stores from this year’s Ramadan Relief Package. This move aims to prevent corruption and eliminate the distribution of substandard goods.
Addressing the federal cabinet, PM Shehbaz stated that he had instructed the Ministry of National Food Security to devise a new relief package that does not rely on Utility Stores. He cited numerous complaints from the previous year regarding inefficiencies and the supply of poor-quality products.
By implementing this revised approach, the government seeks to provide direct and effective assistance to citizens during Ramadan while ensuring transparency and accountability in the distribution process.
