Islamabad, Oct 7: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in academic and research initiatives. USM, which holds a prominent position as the 146th ranked university in the QS World Rankings, intends to collaborate with SBBU on various projects, including joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and the development of academic programs.
Additionally, both institutions plan to establish a Center of Excellence focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity.
Punjab Merit Scholarship Program Registration Begins
In a separate initiative, the Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship Program registration has begun throughout the province. This program is designed to offer scholarships to 30,000 students annually, covering 68 disciplines.
Scholarships will be available for students attending 50 public universities, 16 medical colleges, and 131 graduate colleges.
Over the next four years, 130 billion rupees will be allocated to support 120,000 students, with scholarships covering 100% of tuition fees for students pursuing BS degrees at public universities and selected private institutions.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who approved the program in July, highlighted the importance of supporting higher education, especially for students from remote areas.
During a special meeting with the Higher Education Department, she emphasized the necessity of involving the private sector in promoting educational opportunities.
