Islamabad, June 23, 2025: Julius Malema, the leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has named Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré as Africa’s new revolutionary hero. Malema compared Traoré to the late Thomas Sankara, a respected pan-Africanist leader.
Malema praised President Traoré for kicking out French soldiers and fighting against foreign control. He also highlighted Traoré’s efforts to ensure Burkina Faso controls its own natural resources.
The news comes as Burkina Faso recently signed a deal with Russia to develop nuclear energy, aiming to improve its power supply and become less reliant on foreign help.

President Traoré, who took power in 2022, is seen by many as a leader who is breaking away from old colonial influences.
He promotes pan-African ideas and works closely with other West African nations. Malema’s support for Traoré is popular among Africans who want leaders focused on their people’s needs rather than outside demands.
