Islamabad, June 26, 2025: Veteran actress Maria Wasti has finally opened up about her long break from the Pakistani drama industry, revealing she’s been holding out for a role that truly speaks to her.

In a recent talk show appearance, Wasti shared that her absence from the screen isn’t due to any specific reason. “I’ve received many offers, but nothing inspiring enough to make a comeback,” she said. “I’m waiting for a role that’s creative, layered, and emotionally challenging.”

The actress, celebrated for her powerful performances since the 1990s, expressed concern over the lack of originality in today’s scripts. “Stories today feel recycled,” she remarked. “Characters are not written with depth anymore. There’s a need for new ideas.”

Wasti also looked back fondly on her days at Pakistan Television (PTV), calling those roles “soulful” and “rich with emotion.” She noted that back then, storytelling had more meaning and character arcs had emotional value.

When asked about love, the actress gave a thought-provoking reply. “Love is a selfish emotion,” she said. “It changes you in ways you don’t expect.”

In a lighter moment, she recalled an amusing but alarming fan encounter. “A man once followed me home. I had to act quickly — literally — to get him to leave,” she laughed.

Maria Wasti’s honest views are resonating with fans and fellow actors alike, especially amid growing calls for originality in Pakistani dramas. For now, the screen icon remains on a creative pause — but promises she’ll return when the right role knocks.
