Islamabad, 15 April 2025: Maryam Faisal has been included in the Scotland women’s squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier.
What makes her journey more heartfelt is her strong cricketing roots, as she is the granddaughter of former Pakistan Test cricketer and team manager, Colonel (R) Naushad.
In a recent interview with a private Pakistani TV channel, Maryam spoke about how her grandfather inspired both her and her twin brother to take up cricket.
A 19-year-old Pakistani descent, recalled calling him “Baba” with affection and credited him for being her biggest supporter in the early years of her sporting journey.

Maryam’s international career for Scotland is already underway, with appearances in one One Day International and six T20 Internationals.
Reflecting on her childhood, Maryam shared how a visit to Dubai changed everything.
Her grandfather, then serving as Pakistan’s team manager during a series against Sri Lanka, had taken the family to the stadium.
While she had little interest in the sport at the time, watching a live game sparked something within her. Her brother soon joined a local club, and she followed suit.

She also recalled a moment of personal disappointment in Under-19 cricket, where she initially failed to deliver.
However, she credited her grandfather’s encouragement for motivating her to bounce back with improved performances the following season.
Now back in Pakistan for the World Cup Qualifier, Maryam expressed a deep emotional connection to the country.
She described the experience of playing in Pakistan as something truly special, saying it felt like a dream come true to perform in a place that holds personal meaning for her.
With her talent and strong roots, Maryam Faisal is emerging as a promising name in international women’s cricket.
