Islamabad, Dec 13: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a partnership with Huawei Technologies during her visit to China to transform Lahore into Pakistan’s first smart city. The collaboration aims to integrate advanced digital solutions to improve urban living and infrastructure.
During her visit to Huawei’s headquarters in Longgang District, Shanghai, CM Maryam Nawaz was warmly welcomed and extended an invitation for Huawei to invest more in Pakistan, especially in Punjab.
She proposed the establishment of a Huawei office at Nawaz Sharif IT City and assured full support for setting up assembly and manufacturing plants in the province. Additionally, she offered Huawei the opportunity to set up retail offices and after-sales service centers across Punjab.
The focus of their discussions was on digital transformation, with an emphasis on e-commerce, ecosystem development, and the digitization of healthcare and education sectors. CM Nawaz also highlighted the integration of Huawei’s expertise into the first Artificial Intelligence University in Punjab and sought their help in building capacity and advancing IT research at Nawaz Sharif IT City.
Moreover, she mentioned Huawei’s role in familiarizing Punjab’s youth with emerging digital technologies and supporting the province’s ecosystem development.
Wang Chengdong, Huawei’s President of Government Affairs, shared insights on the company’s ongoing projects in Punjab and expressed a strong interest in deepening the partnership. He highlighted Huawei’s expertise in telecommunications, electronics, and digitalization, which align with Punjab’s vision for a “Digital Punjab.”
The visit concluded with CM Maryam Nawaz touring Huawei’s departments and manufacturing facilities, reaffirming the province’s commitment to leveraging Huawei’s technological capabilities for economic growth and digital innovation. This collaboration is expected to elevate Lahore’s urban living standards and serve as a model for smart city development in Pakistan.
