Islamabad, Nov 29: Pakistan Railways has introduced a 50% discount on train fares for people with disabilities (PWDs) traveling on all express and passenger trains, except the Green Line.
To avail of the discount, PWDs must present a Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) with the disability logo.
The discount also extends to attendants traveling with visually impaired passengers.
In addition to the fare reduction, Pakistan Railways has taken steps to enhance accessibility at stations. Wheelchairs are now available at all major stations, and special counters have been set up for PWDs to book tickets.
Several major stations also provide free access to executive washrooms and restrooms for PWDs.
Future plans include the installation of dedicated washrooms for PWDs at 12 more stations.
Regarding train services, the official explained that Khushal Khan Khattak Express was discontinued in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent suspension of operations.
The restoration of the Khushal Khan Khattak Express will be considered once sufficient coaches become available and the commercial feasibility of the route is evaluated.
Two daily trains, 2 Up and 2 Down, continue to run between Peshawar and Karachi. Additionally, the Bolan Mail and Monjodaro Express operate on the Larkana section to cater to local transportation needs.
