Work on Rawalpindi road project begins next month, aiming to ease traffic for over 250,000 daily commuters, worth Rs. 6.4Bn

Work on the Rs. 6.494 billion Kutchery Chowk, Rawalpindi road project remodeling will start next month, with the Punjab Highway Department already marking land for construction.

At a review meeting, the deputy commissioner directed utility providers like SNGPL, IESCO, PTCL, Rawalpindi, Chaklala Cantonment Boards and WASA to submit cost estimates for service relocation. Officials said more than 36 kanals of land will be required, largely state-owned.

Given that over 250,000 vehicles cross the intersection daily, the highway department was asked to share traffic data with police for management during construction. The project spans 2.5 kilometers, with utility shifting set to begin within a week.

The scheme is part of a broader signal-free corridor from Koral Chowk to Motorway Chowk, recently approved by the Punjab government alongside two other projects in Rawalpindi.
