Islamabad, Mar 1: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a westerly wave approaching the country’s western regions on March 2, bringing rain and snowfall to various parts of the country.

Rain and Snowfall Expected in Balochistan

Starting March 2, scattered rainfall and snowfall over higher altitudes are expected in several districts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Mastung, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chagai, Noushki, Kharan, Kalat, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Harnai, Zhob, and Sherani. The wet spell will continue through March 3.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir to Experience Wet Conditions

From March 2 to 4, rain and snowfall are expected across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, affecting areas like Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Peshawar. Similarly, Murree, Galliyat, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir will experience wet conditions.

Punjab and Islamabad Rainfall Outlook

Islamabad and Punjab’s northern districts—including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, and Lahore—are likely to witness rainfall on March 2 and 3. Meanwhile, light rain is expected in Bhakkar, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Rajanpur, and Bahawalpur.

Rain Forecast for Sindh

Larkana and Sukkur districts in Sindh may receive rainfall between March 2 and 3, though the intensity is expected to be light to moderate.

Potential Hazards: Snowfall, Road Closures, and Landslides

Moderate to heavy snowfall may disrupt travel in Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Astore, Hunza, and Skardu. Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli may also face road blockages due to accumulated snow.

Additionally, landslides and avalanches could occur in hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Travelers are advised to exercise caution.

Hailstorm Risk in Northern Regions

Upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Punjab, Islamabad, and Kashmir may also experience isolated hailstorms during this period.
