Islamabad, June 23, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given the green light to a proposal aiming to gradually remove meter readers from all power distribution companies (Discos), excluding the Karachi Electric zone. A new self-meter reading application, “Apna Meter Apni Reading,” is expected to be introduced soon.

During a top-level session held on June 17, 2025, the Prime Minister instructed the Power Division to roll out the Power Smart Mobile Application in both the national and regional dialects to make it user-friendly for everyone. Initially, a soft launch will take place to address any technical glitches. The administration has reserved Rs. 316 million for this initiative.

The Power Division has been given a deadline of one month to develop a comprehensive strategy for doing away with the role of meter readers.

Key digital tools to be introduced include the Power Smart App, Apna Meter Apni Reading, CCMS+, and Lineman Mobile Solution. These will undergo rigorous trials to verify performance and ensure user contentment.
