Islamabad, 14 June 2025:  Metro Drive in Rawalpindi Metro Bus operator suffered a suspected heat-related episode while on duty near the Saddar station early Saturday morning, according to initial reports from on-ground personnel.

The incident occurred between 9:30 and 9:50 AM, when the Metro Driver began feeling visibly unwell, likely due to the soaring temperatures and oppressive humidity. Witnesses stated that he appeared to be on the verge of fainting inside the bus cabin.

The Metro security guard and a standby driver were alerted. They promptly assisted the affected Metro Driver, helping him out of the vehicle and providing water to help stabilize his condition. The backup operator, who had his belongings ready, immediately took charge of the bus to prevent any disruption to passenger service.

Both male and female security staff accompanied the unwell driver to ensure his safety as he was escorted away from the scene. Eyewitnesses described the atmosphere as “stifling,” with extreme humidity likely playing a significant role in the driver’s physical distress.

This episode has raised concerns about the safety of transit workers amid the ongoing heatwave gripping parts of Punjab. Commuters and staff alike are being urged to stay hydrated and watch for signs of heat exhaustion, especially during peak morning hours.

The condition of the Metro Driver is reported to be stable, and transport authorities are expected to review heat-related protocols in the wake of the incident.
