Islamabad, July 17, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially approved a digital fare payment system for Lahore’s Orange Line and Metro Bus services across multiple cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Islamabad.
During a high-level meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab Transport Department presented a detailed roadmap for the transition from traditional tokens to a barcode-based digital entry system. Under this new system, the outdated token mechanism will be fully phased out.
Commuters will soon enjoy a tap-and-go experience using NFC technology, simplifying access to the entire mass transit network. Passengers can pay fares through credit/debit cards, ATM cards, and mobile wallet apps, creating a faster, more secure, and contactless travel experience.
This shift aligns with Punjab’s broader push for smart public transport solutions, aiming to reduce queues, improve efficiency, and enhance user convenience. The Metro Bus digital card system will streamline operations and support the province’s commitment to digital innovation in governance.
The NFC-enabled Metro Bus and Orange Line card system will ensure passengers no longer need to carry cash or wait in long lines to buy tokens. Instead, a simple tap on the reader will grant instant access to the transit system.
