Islamabad, Aug 28: The metro bus service in Multan has been interrupted due to a burst in a Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) line, as heavy rains continue to affect daily life across the nation, according to a private news station. The bus between BCG Chowk and BZU Station is not operating, as stated by the district administration. Officials said that after the WASA line is stabilized and repairs are finished, service will resume.
Severe rainfall has severely damaged Multan and other parts of Southern Punjab, causing extensive flooding. At Chungi No. 9 Disposal Station in Multan, there was an unprecedented 177 millimeters of rain, breaking the previous record of 134.5 millimeters established in 1976, according to the WASA.
A rain emergency has been proclaimed by the authorities in response to the intense downpour. It has been conducting substantial drainage operations and keeping officials, such as the Director General of MDA, the Deputy Commissioner, and the Commissioner of Multan Division, informed on a regular basis.
Many of the Multan Electric Power Company’s (MEPCO) power feeders have tripped due to the intense rain, causing extensive power disruptions. Officials from MEPCO have promised that power will be back on as soon as the rain stops. The Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner have cautioned WASA officials to remain vigilant in anticipation of more rain. Nevertheless, the large volume of water is too much for the city’s drainage infrastructure to handle.
