The Lahore development projects are set to move forward with significant transport initiatives, though some plans have been delayed due to recent floods. The Lahore Canal Road Electric Tram project will not start immediately, as the government prioritizes providing Rs. 130 billion to flood-affected communities.

Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan confirmed that the tram project will include three new proposals, which will be submitted to the Chief Minister in December. Once approved, the project is expected to become operational within a year to a year and a half.

The minister highlighted that ground-breaking for the Canal Road tram will take place in a few months, signaling renewed momentum for urban transport in Lahore.

In addition to the electric tram, the government plans to expand public transport capacity through the introduction of 400 new buses in Lahore, funded with the support of the World Bank at a cost of $25 million. A total fleet of 800 electric buses is being planned to modernize city transport and reduce emissions.
