Islamabad, July 4, 2025: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued a monsoon rain alert for Muharram 9 and 10, warning of heavy rainfall across major cities. Meanwhile, mobile phone services in Peshawar will be suspended as part of a comprehensive Muharram security plan.
Authorities confirmed that the service shutdown will begin after Friday prayers on the 8th of Muharram and will remain in effect until 10 PM on Ashura night (Sunday). The decision aims to prevent any untoward incidents during mourning processions, especially in sensitive zones of the city.
A police spokesperson stated that the mobile service suspension in Peshawar is a precautionary measure to maintain peace and public safety during the religious observance. Law enforcement will also implement advanced surveillance, including drone monitoring, CCTV coverage, and high-tech security checks.
Citizens are urged to stay alert and fully cooperate with security officials. Police and other law enforcement units will be on high alert throughout Muharram, particularly on the 9th and 10th, when crowds are expected to gather in large numbers.

This move follows PDMA’s separate advisory for Punjab, cautioning residents of potential urban flooding and heavy downpour during the peak of the monsoon season coinciding with Muharram.
