Islamabad, June 18, 2025: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unequivocally dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated offers to mediate between India and Pakistan, particularly over the sensitive issue of Kashmir. According to Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Modi made India’s position crystal clear during a private phone call with Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit held in Canada.

During the conversation, PM Modi reportedly briefed President Trump on India’s recent military activities under Operation Sindoor and emphasized that New Delhi maintains a long-standing policy of not accepting any foreign mediation regarding its bilateral matters with Pakistan. “India has never accepted mediation, does not accept it now, and will never accept it,” Misri quoted Modi as saying.

The clarification comes in response to President Trump’s bold claims about diffusing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Trump had earlier stated, “I stopped a war between India and Pakistan. I used trade pressure. It was pretty cool,” while speaking at a White House event.

Trump even described a dramatic scenario, suggesting that Pakistan was preparing to strike back, and implied that his intervention prevented a catastrophic nuclear exchange. “They were getting ready. Pakistan was next to strike. Eventually, they would have gone nuclear,” he said. “But I stopped it.”

He further reiterated his willingness to arbitrate the Kashmir conflict, claiming, “I’ll be your arbitrator. I can solve anything.” According to Trump, he told both countries that their feud over Kashmir has lasted for centuries — even humorously stating, “How long has this been going on? They said 2,000 years. I said, oh, that’s a long time.”

Despite Trump’s repeated assertions, India has made it clear that any resolution to the Kashmir issue will only be pursued through direct bilateral talks with Pakistan — without any external involvement.
