Islamabad, Aug 11, 2025: The club of Liverpool F.C. striker Mohamed Salah has publicly criticized UEFA on its commemoration of the deceased Jordanian football star Suleiman Al-Obeid who became killed in Gaza this week and wondered why UEFA had not included the circumstances of his murder in its tribute to him. Al-Obeid, was a one time national player often referred to as the Palestinian Pele inspiring many other young athletes in Palestine.

The Palestine Football Association also said he was killed on Wednesday in an Israeli incident that targets civilians awaiting their humanitarian aid in southern Gaza. In their brief statement on X, UEFA barely mentioned Al-Obeid, only as the player who had given hope to hundreds and thousands of children all over even in the most trying of situations. Salah reacted to it by direct questioning saying; can you tell us how he died? Where and why?

During the conflict, the Egyptian striker has been a powerful voice of voicing humanitarian aid access in Gaza and calling others to give support to civilians caught in the war. Bassil Mikdadi, the founder of Football Palestine, did not demonstrate great expectations of UEFA taking any action to respond to coverage of Salah, with no football authority making any statements since the war erupted.

He pointed out that Al-Obeid is among more than 400 Palestinian players that have been killed during the violence. According to the United Nations, more than 1,000 individuals have been killed around areas of delivery of food in Gaza since late May according to Gaza Humanitarian Framework.

The fact that Mohamad Salah has not been afraid of expressing his opinions indicates that he wants to increase awareness about the humanitarian crisis facing the people in Palestine.
