Islamabad, 29 April 2025: Mohamed Salah selfie celebration after the title-winning match against Tottenham has become a major talking point this season.
After scoring fourth goal in a 5-1 victory, the Egyptian forward grabbed a phone from a staff member and snapped a picture with the jubilant fans behind him.
The image, later shared by Salah and social media accounts of Liverpool, received millions of likes and views.
While many saw it as a spontaneous and memorable celebration, questions arose over whether it was also a clever marketing move.

Observers noted that the phone Salah used was a model produced by Google Pixel, one of Liverpool’s official sponsors.
Speaking to media, Salah explained that he had wanted to do something special, knowing the photo would capture a historic moment.
He shared that he often takes selfies with teammates during the season, making this gesture a natural extension of his usual celebrations.
Some fans thought Salah took the phone from a supporter, but it was later confirmed to be a staff member’s device near the Kop.
Many pointed out that predicting Salah would score was hardly far-fetched given his prolific season, with Sunday’s goal marking his 33rd.

None of Liverpool’s earlier goal scorers had attempted a similar celebration.
Liverpool players have featured in Google adverts throughout the season, and post-match selfies taken by Salah were also promoted by the company online.
However, there appears to be no rule against such actions, even if there were marketing intentions behind them.
Referee Thomas Bramall opted not to book Salah for delaying the restart, unlike Cody Gakpo, who was shown a yellow card earlier for removing his shirt in celebration.
This is not the first time football has seen a selfie celebration — Roma legend Francesco Totti did the same in 2015 after scoring in a derby against Lazio.
