Islamabad, Oct 8: MoneyGram Cyberattack Customer Data Compromised
MoneyGram has confirmed that hackers breached its systems and stole sensitive customer data and transaction information during a cyberattack last month, as reported by TechCrunch.
The company announced on Monday that an unauthorized third party accessed and acquired personal customer details on September 20, resulting in a week-long outage that affected its website and app.
The breach has compromised various types of customer data, including names, phone numbers, addresses, dates of birth, and national ID numbers.
Additionally, hackers accessed transaction details, such as transaction dates, amounts, and sensitive criminal data related to some customers.
MoneyGram is currently in the early stages of investigating the breach and has not yet revealed the number of customers impacted.
Last month, the company notified UK data protection authorities about the data breach, complying with legal requirements.
The cyberattack was discovered when MoneyGram detected unusual activity on its systems. Upon investigation, the company found that unauthorized individuals had gained access to a database containing personal details of millions of customers.
This data may include names, addresses, and financial information, making it a potential target for identity theft and fraud.
MoneyGram has since taken immediate steps to secure its systems and has engaged cybersecurity experts to assess the extent of the breach. The company is also working closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate the attack further.
In a statement, MoneyGram emphasized its commitment to protecting customer data and assured users that it is implementing enhanced security measures to prevent future incidents.
