Islamabad 3 August: As Pakistan continues to battle the relentless monsoon season, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh forecast warning of rain-wind/thundershowers expected to sweep across large parts of the country starting August 4, 2025.
The alert comes as weak monsoon currents already affect upper and central regions, with the intensity set to escalate, potentially worsening the fragile flood situation in vulnerable areas.
The PMD anticipates a strengthening westerly wave by August 5, amplifying rain-producing systems across the nation. In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, scattered rains with isolated heavy falls are predicted from August 4 to 7, with key areas like Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Neelum Valley, Diamir, Skardu, and Gilgit at risk of flash flooding and landslides, especially in hilly terrains. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) districts, including Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, and Dera Ismail Khan, are also bracing for heavy rainfall, wind, and thunderstorms during the same period.
Punjab and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) are not spared, with cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Murree, and Sialkot expected to face significant downpours from August 4 to 7. The forecast warns of potential urban flooding in low-lying areas, posing challenges for residents and authorities alike. As of 05:44 AM PKT on Sunday, August 3, 2025, the PMD urges preparedness, with social media users on X expressing concern over the recurring monsoon threats.
