Islamabad, July 18, 2025: Warner Bros. has finally released the much anticipated full trailer for Mortal Kombat 2, the sequel to the 2021 film based on the iconic video game franchise.
The sequel’s most headline-worthy addition is Karl Urban, known for his role in The Boys, stepping into the shoes of the fan-favorite character Johnny Cage.
Departing from the original story where Cole Young fought alongside the classic warriors, Mortal Kombat 2 shifts focus directly onto the tournament itself. “Unlike the previous film, in which the original character Cole Young fought side by side with the main characters of the franchise, the film Mortal Kombat 2 is dedicated directly to the deadly tournament, which became the main event of the plot, and Johnny Cage’s participation in it.”
Several key characters will appear for the first time in the franchise’s cinematic universe. “The sequel will introduce new characters not seen in the first film, including Princess Kitana, her friend Jade, the sorcerer Quan Chi, Emperor Shao Kahn, Queen Sindel, King Jerrod, and the Tarkatan Baraka.”

As a build-up to the trailer, Warner Bros. also shared a short teaser spotlighting Johnny Cage, crafted in a nostalgic 90s action movie style. “Also, a day before the main trailer, a teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat 2 appeared online, dedicated to Johnny Cage and his film, shot in the style of 90s action movies.”
