Islamabad, 30 April 2025: Ali Tareen, the owner of Multan Sultans, has voiced significant concerns about the ongoing scheduling clash between PSL and IPL.

He warned that this overlap could affect the PSL’s future ability to attract and retain top international talent.

Tareen highlighted the rapid growth of the PSL, largely due to the participation of renowned global stars such as Darren Sammy, Shane Watson, and Colin Munro.

However, he expressed doubts about the league’s long-term prospects if the clash with the IPL continues.

In a post on X, Tareen questioned whether the PSL could continue attracting high-caliber players if it remained in direct competition with the IPL’s calendar.

He also raised concerns about losing top performers to the IPL after only one or two seasons, a trend that could harm the PSL’s future appeal.

While there had been initial support for scheduling PSL matches during the IPL season, Tareen now believes this strategy might be counterproductive.

His comments have sparked renewed debate within Pakistan cricket about the challenges of scheduling conflicts.

Many are also discussing the commercial impact of competing against the IPL, widely seen as the world’s most lucrative T20 league.

For example, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson joined Karachi Kings later this season due to his IPL commentary duties, having been overlooked in the IPL draft.

Tareen also clarified that despite rumours of his departure, he remains fully committed to the Multan Sultans.

His frank comments on the PSL-IPL scheduling clash suggest that significant strategic discussions may be in store for the future of Pakistan’s premier T20 league.
