Islamabad, Mar 3, 2025: The Punjab government has initiated a Rs. 550 million project to restore Murree’s Mall Road, aiming to enhance its infrastructure while preserving its historical charm.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has tasked the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) with leading the restoration efforts, incorporating insights from experts and local stakeholders.
Emphasizing the project’s significance, the chief minister stated that the goal is to position Murree as a world-class tourist hub while maintaining high-quality standards.
Additionally, she unveiled plans for a glass train to offer breathtaking scenic views and announced the construction of a modern hospital to improve healthcare facilities for both locals and visitors.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb will oversee the Murree Development Project, ensuring its smooth execution. As part of the initiative, historical footpaths will be reconstructed, and a comprehensive cleanliness drive will be implemented to enhance the town’s overall appeal.
To preserve Murree’s distinct character, shops and buildings along Mall Road will undergo restoration, returning to their original architectural style. Standardized signage and lighting will be introduced to create a uniform and aesthetically pleasing streetscape.
Furthermore, a public square will be established to showcase the rich heritage of the region, adding to its cultural significance. Tourists will also benefit from upgraded public restrooms, ensuring greater convenience.
With an ambitious one-year timeline, the government aims to revitalize Murree’s historic identity while elevating it as a premier tourist destination.
This initiative reflects Punjab’s commitment to sustainable tourism development while preserving the town’s cultural and architectural legacy.
