Islamabad, Aug 26: After Bangladesh defeated Pakistan in a historic match at Rawalpindi, veteran cricket player Mushfiqur Rahim garnered media attention for both his outstanding on-field exploits and his kind actions off it.
Following his magnificent 191-run innings against Pakistan in the first Test at Rawalpindi, Rahim declared he would donate his prize money to the people of Bangladesh afflicted by the floods. Rahim was chosen Man of the Match.
The nation is currently dealing with severe flooding that has destroyed 11 districts, affected over 4.8 million people, and claimed 15 lives.
“I would like to give my prize money back to Bangladesh because there has been a flood there,” Rahim said following Bangladesh’s decisive 10-wicket win over Pakistan, their first-ever triumph in Test cricket against their hosts.
Rahim called his innings one of his greatest in retrospect, especially considering Bangladesh’s difficulties playing abroad.
He attributed his success to the team’s careful planning and the coaching staff’s steadfast backing.
The Test match was an emotional rollercoaster, with Pakistan trailing 16 for three at one point before rallying behind strong centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel.
But Rahim’s hit, along with significant contributions from Mehidy Hasan and Shadman Islam, made sure Bangladesh had a decisive first-inning advantage. Bangladesh will now try to capitalize on this historic victory in the forthcoming second Test. On Day 5, Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by spinners Mehidy and Shakib Al Hasan, completely destroyed Pakistan’s batting lineup, leaving the openers to easily chase down the 30-run goal.
